Center for a Free Cuba Issues Statement on the Passing of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham

Washington DC. July 12, 2026 — The Center for a Free Cuba today mourns the passing of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a longtime friend of the Cuban people and a consistent champion of human rights, democracy, and freedom on the island.

In a statement shared on its official X account, the Center said:

“Senator Lindsey Graham, a friend of the Cuban people, has passed away. He clearly understood the distinction between the Castro dictatorship and the Cuban people yearning for freedom.

Graham opposed President Barack Obama’s decision to reopen the U.S. Embassy in Havana and consistently objected to Russian and Chinese military bases on the island.

Until his final days, he championed the liberation of the Cuban people from tyranny. He will be remembered with gratitude by Cubans on the island and by the Cuban diaspora around the world.
