SPANISH CONGRESS OF DEPUTIES APPROVES EXPRESS SUPPORT FOR THE LIBERATION AGREEMENT SIGNED BY CUBAN DISSIDENCE

June 10, 2026.- The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Spanish Parliament has approved a Non-Law Proposition (PNL) that constitutes explicit support for the Liberation Agreement signed by Cuban civic, opposition, and democratic resistance organizations, consolidating this coalition as the essential reference to articulate a democratic, nonviolent, and orderly exit from the Castro dictatorship.
The text, presented by the Popular Parliamentary Group and supported by VOX, condemns the repression exercised by the Cuban dictatorship, demands the release of political prisoners, and backs a nonviolent transition process toward democracy.
Popular Party deputy Belén Hoyos addressed the Committee members to request their support at this moment, reminding them: “We ask you to support those who have no voice, those who are imprisoned, those who suffer shortages, those who live without freedoms. Because the condemnation of revolution cannot be a life sentence and the Cuban dictatorship must end now.”
For its part, the VOX parliamentary group introduced an amendment condemning Havana’s links to terrorism. The amendment demands “memory, dignity and justice for the victims of terrorism caused by organizations formed, trained, financed or coordinated from Cuba. In particular, the victims of ETA terrorism, an organization that has received from Cuba military training, safe refuge and political support.”
VOX deputy José María Sánchez cited Secretary of State Marco Rubio to affirm that “practically all the violent radical left terrorist groups in Latin America have depended, at some point, on Cuba’s support.”
“We welcome members of the Spanish parliament recognizing the Liberation Agreement, and that Cuba’s sovereignty rests with the Cuban people, not the dictatorship oppressing them,” observed John Suarez, executive director, Center for a Free Cuba.
