They began the protest at the Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C., then walked down 16th Street to the Russian ambassador’s residence and continued their protest.

With photos of Alexei Navalny, murdered by the Putin regime, and Oswaldo Payá, murdered by the Castro regime, they explained the criminal nature of both regimes.

“We are here to show solidarity with Russian human rights activists and Cuban human rights activists. This is Alexei Navalny, assassinated in 2024, and Oswaldo Payá, assassinated in 2012, by the respective dictatorships in Moscow and Havana,” Suárez stated in front of the Cuban Embassy in Washington.

For his part, Frank Calzón held a banner with photos of Boris Nemtsov and Orlando Zapata Tamayo, both assassinated by the Russian and Cuban regimes, respectively. He also remembered the Cubans sent to war against Ukraine, showing the identity cards of some of them.

“There are a number of Cubans who have died in Ukraine. There is no reason for Cubans to die in Ukraine. I would like to ask that you send letters to the Russian Embassy here in Washington, so that they listen to Mrs. Trump, who has asked Putin to return the Ukrainian children kidnapped in Russia,” said Frank Calzón.

They also raised a banner with photos of Cubans with passports identified by Ukraine as combatants in Putin’s illegal war against this Eastern European democracy.

The Center for a Free Cuba reaffirms its commitment to denouncing crimes and acts against humanity perpetrated by criminal regimes like the ones today ruling in Cuba and Russia.
