Center for a Free Cuba will deliver thousands of signatures requesting the expulsion of Cuba from the UN Human Rights Council, and requests the application of Magnitsky Sanctions against Diaz-Canel in New York with a victim of 11J repression

Washington, DC, September 18, 2023. Center for a Free Cuba. The Center for a Free Cuba (CCL) will hold a press conference in front of the headquarters of the United Nations in New York City where the more than two thousand two hundred signatures of Cuban and international personalities calling for the expulsion of Cuba of the UN Human Rights Council will be made available, and to announce the request made to the Biden Administration regarding the application of the Magnitsky Act against the person of Miguel Díaz Canel, denouncing the violation of human rights on the Island and abroad.

During the conference, independent journalist Orelvys Cabrera, who was a victim and witness of police brutality unleashed during the July 2021 protests in Cuba, will give testimony.

“The Cuban dictatorship and its representative Díaz Canel are criminals who must be held accountable and not received at the United Nations. Thousands of people around the world are asking that Cuba not be a member of the UN Human Rights Council, taking into account that repression has increased over the past four years on the Island, and Díaz Canel is directly responsible for the deaths, attacks and imprisonment of thousands of Cubans,” said John Suárez, Executive Director of the Center.
