Update on the case of Eduardo Cardet Concepción, National Coordinator of the Christian Liberation Movement, arbitrarily detained by State Security agents

Eduardo Cardet arbitrarily detained on October 15th, threatened with prison, left stranded.

Center for a Free Cuba. Washington DC. October 16, 2022 – Yesterday, October 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm, at his home in Velasco, Eduardo Cardet Concepción while talking on the phone long distance with Carlos Alberto Paya Sardiñas, the MCL representative in Spain, two Cuban government officials arrived, who did not identify themselves and told him that he had to accompany them to the city of Holguin.

Eduardo Cardet, who returned home last night, narrates what happened next.

“From Velasco they transferred me to Holguín, the center of operations for crimes against state security (Pedernales). Supposedly the arrest was due to my participation in the march on the 12th (which they said was a public disturbance), they accused me of having instigated it. They threatened me with prison if I participated again in something similar.

The officials decided to notify me with a kind of “warning” through an act that of course I did not sign because it was an illegal document. They left me stranded in Pedernales and the transportation was bad. I was low on money and I had to settle with the buses. You know how that is. [ Public transportation in Cuba is haphazard.] The return to Velasco was by my own means.

Thank you very much to you and all the friends for looking out and decrying [my detention]…
