March and vigils in front of the Cuban Embassy in Washington DC will mark first anniversary of nationwide protests in Cuba

Center for a Free Cuba, July 8, 2022, Washington, DC. The Center for a Free Cuba will join the Cuban Freedom March in Washington, DC this coming Saturday, July 9 at 4PM. “March participants will gather at the Washington Monument and walk to the Lincoln Memorial to commemorate the first anniversary of the massive protests carried out in Cuba starting on July 11, 2021”, explained Alián Collazo, one of the organizers of the event.

In addition to the march, two vigils will be held in front of the Cuban Embassy, now the headquarters of the Castro dictatorship, located at 2630 16th St NW, Washington, DC.

The first will be on Saturday July 9th following the March at 7PM and is organized by Cuban Freedom March. The second vigil will be on Monday July 11th at 7PM and is being co-organized by the Center for a Free Cuba, Cuba Decide, Patmos, The Heritage Foundation, and the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.

“We have an obligation to mark the first anniversary of nationwide protests in Cuba, especially taking into account the resurgence of repression within the Island, the murders, imprisonments, repressive measures against Cuban citizens denied the right to return to their country and the ongoing hunger and thirst strikes carried out by artist and prisoner of conscience Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara and scientist and exile Ariel Uruiola,” said John Suárez, Executive Director of the Center for a Free Cuba.
