Statement by Center for a Free Cuba on the passing of Cuban human rights pioneer Oscar Peña

The Center for a Free Cuba is sharing the following statement by our Chairman on the passing of Cuban human rights pioneer Oscar Peña:

Dr. Ricardo Bofill and Oscar Peña

Dr. Ricardo Bofill and Oscar Peña

“The Center for a Free Cuba and all Cubans learned with sadness the passing of Oscar Peña, a tireless human rights advocate for the people of Cuba.  Oscar Peña was part of a legion of patriots that included Dr. Ricardo Bofill Pagés, Gustavo Arcos Bergnes, Sebastian Arcos Bergnes, Adolfo Rivero Caro, and Dr. Marta Frayde who founded the Cuban Committee for Human Rights founded in 1976. They spent decades defending human rights in Cuba and sharing well documented reports on human rights violations by the Castro regime to the international community. May they all rest in peace. They have entered forever into the pages of the history of Cuba.”

– Guillermo Marmol, Chairman, Center for a Free Cuba
